USA Motto - In God We Trust

I am sitting here reviewing a lesson for a ministry I'm involved in...may share a bit about that one day, but a phrase has jumped out at me. Not really being one that was interested in History when I went to school...more because it was taught in such a boring way than anything, I am discovering anew things in history that never struck me before. Or perhaps the subject matter was just overlooked.

The phrase - "Ever since 1864, every dollar bill and every coin made in the US has been printed or stamped with these four words, 'In God We Trust". Okay, that one I know, I see that on ever piece of money that passes through my hands.

But here's the one that struck me that actually happened when I as about 5 years old, "in 1956 the Congress of the United States made 'In God We Trust" the official motto of our country." That was exciting to me...to think that I live in a Nation that was founded on a trust in God...the God of the Bible, not just some generic higher power, but the creator of all things!

A hope and dream of mine is that we will not lose sight of that, that those who want to remove God from all things will be silenced and those who make a stand for the God we trust in will not be suppressed.
